New York City hosted its first football celebration in Lower Manhattan’s Canyon of Heroes with the NY Giants ticker-tape parade on Tuesday. With over 4,500 seats for guests and fans, the parade ended with a ceremony at City Hall. Whoppi Goldberg and elected officials like Senator Chuck Schumer and Governor Elliot Spitzer said a few words before Mayor Bloomberg gave a key to the city to each of the NY Giants coaches and players.

Though I don’t care much for the sport, witnessing the ceremony from the media risers was phenomenal. Michael Strahan’s speech was the most exciting moment for me as he called his teammates a “bunch of goofballs,” and explained how they “stomped out” the Patriots and all the other NFL teams. This being Strahan’s fifthteenth year with the Giants, his fans don’t know if this would be his final year in the sport. So in unison fans shouted “one more year, one more year…” But all Michael could say was, “we’ll see”.
Overall Tuesday, Februay 5, 2008 was a historic day for the NY Giants and the city. Plus with the unprecented primary election between a woman and an African-American, it was also a historic day for the U.S. *mercedes sanchez

Bryant Park isn’t the only locale with shows and a celebrity guestlist during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. Hosts of the new series Make Me A Supermodel Niki Taylor and Tyson Beckford were sitting front row at FORM’s Autumn Winter 2008 Collection at the New Museum on the Bowery on Saturday morning. Apparently, hidden cameras and photographers were taking candid footage of all the attendees for the Bravo hit show.

FORM’s four designers were inspired by the intrinsic and sculptural qualities of architecture, and its 2008 collection focused on traditional garment lines. From the museum’s Sky Room, the models wore cashmere knits, coats made of natural fabrics with a touch of greys, midnight blues and black. My favorite were the outfits with hints of magenta and the matching fuchsia lipstick.
As I walked to the museum from my apartment, I didn’t know what to expect of the show. I had yet to visit the museum. Perhaps I was subconsciously protesting against the project: Something about a 50-million-dollar museum built next to a homeless shelter on the Bowery just doesn’t seem right. However, the fashion show was great and the turn out was impressive. *mercedes sanchez

LIPSTICK JUNGLE AT THE TENT
Not only is February 1st National Wear Red Day, but today also marks the official Mercedes-Benz Fall 2008 Fashion Week in New York City.
And what better way to kick off the week with the new female powerhouses of Lipstick Jungle, Brooke Shields, Kim Raver and Lindsay Price at this morning’s ribbon cutting at The Tent in Bryant Park. Not even a cold, rainy day in February could keep these ladies away from one of the biggest occasions in the industry. Besides, next week the trio is starring in another series by Sex and the City author Candace Bushnell about Manhattanite fashionistas. But this time Bushnell’s characters won’t merely focus on shoes, sex and writing. This time around the chicas are also savvy and sultry business women. *mercedes sanchez
