IT ALL ENDS WITH TOMMY

End of an Era at Bryant Park

By Jennifer Eberhart

TommyHilfigerBeChicMagAfter a week’s worth of Swarovski-crystal tights, chunky scarves and black asymmetrical dresses, Bryant Park closed its final season of Fashion Week on Thursday night with the Tommy Hilfiger show.

The accomplished designer showed his true colors (red, white and blue, of course) in what proved to be a very fitting end of Fashion Week with classic, all-American looks.  In true Tommy tradition, the line included luscious red peacoats, sleek silk gowns, and cashmere sweaters for the ladies, while men sported khaki trench coats and handsome navy blazers.

The audience, which included Gossip Girl notables Ed Westwick and Penn Badgley, as well as Ashley Olsen, Rosario Dawson, and VP of IMG Fern Mallis, was enthralled with the line, and rose to give the designer a standing ovation as the show closed.  Hilfiger graciously accepted his praise and wholeheartedly thanked IMG and Bryant Park for hosting Fashion Week for the past 18 years.

And so ended the Fall 2010 season of Fashion Week in the Bryant Park tents.  Can’t wait for next season as we go, in the words of Tommy Hilfiger, “onward and upward to Lincoln Center.”  See you there!

Project Runway at Fashion Week

20 02 2010

By Jessica Bianculli

projectrunway_bechicmagThe snow didn’t stop us from covering the shows at Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. With the short skirts, sleeveless tops, dresses and sandals covering the carpet of the heated tents it was as if the reality of winter was nothing but an illusion- except to the contestants from Project Runway’s season seven who got to exhibit their very first clothing line for the fall season. Don’t worry- there aren’t any spoilers here because 10 of the show’s designers had the chance to present their first collection, whether they made the final cut or not. See our slideshow below!

RUNWAY TO STREET MAKE-UP

18 02 2010

VictorHenao_BeChicMagAs fashion week comes to an end, we want to bring the runway looks to you! Not just the clothes, but the make-up too. Victor Henao was the key MUA (meaning he was in charge) at the Jonathan Simkhai and Eryn Brinie shows during Mercedes-Benz Fashion Week. On the video below, watch as Henao demonstrates how to get thick, exotic eyebrows like the models at the Simkhai show, and how to go for a more subtle but dark look like the girls at Eryn Brinie using Pür Minerals and Smashbox cosmetics respectively.

We should mention that Henao was the first make-up artist to be signed under Top 5 Management, a hair and make-up agency representing the top artists in the industry!

96694177_10.previewAfter Rebecca Taylor’s show at the Tents, we crossed the street to the Bryant Park Hotel for her exclusive after-party hosted by Carmen Electra. As everyone’s raving about the Swavorski crystal tights the models donned down the runway, we just had to ask Rebecca about them.

We also caught up with Electra and Real Housewife of New York City Ramona Singer who as always was full of high energy and interesting conversation. See for yourself below or on our BeChicTV page.
