Talk about celebrating diversity! We have photo submissions from a new author, a fellow dominican now living in the United Kingdom, and a teacher who doesn’t like to wear makeup.

Sujeiry (pictured on the left holding her new book) wore this silk jacket over a gray dress to celebrate the release of her new tome Love Trips: A Collection of Relationship Stumbles. “I bought the jacket and shoes in my Washington Heights neighborhood,” says Sujeiry. “My definition of chic is looking good and feeling good in your shape and size, no matter what others may think or say. I rarely follow fashion trends. I wear what suits my personality and current mood. I buy my clothes from all types of shops. You never know where you will find a great (and affordable) outfit!

Carolina (on the right) is looking glam chic with her Margaret Cooper pearls in London.

Take a look at the gallery below which includes a photo submission by Eileen– a teacher who wore makeup for the first time thanks to a Macy’s beauty rep.

Revamp your Beauty Routine

24 01 2012

Does your skin need a reboot in 2012?

By Mercedes Sanchez

simple skincare ambassador If you’re looking to improve your skincare, this is the perfect time of year to reconsider your daily beauty routine. In a previous post, I shared a photo of my first zit in a year! Not the most ideal way to start 2012, right? Whether you have sensitive skin like me or not, here are some tips on revamping your regimen.

Oily Skin

Treat your oily skin with a thorough cleansing and moisturizing routine. Use a gentle cleanser that won’t irritate your skin. Look for one that doesn’t contain soap, dyes or perfumes.

Some women think that a moisturizer will only make their skin more oily; that’s a misconception. Even oily skin needs to be moisturized. Steer away from moisturizers with oils and don’t over apply.

Breakout Prone

Products that contain benzoyl peroxide and salicylic acid help fight breakouts, but they can dry your skin. Try to use it once every other day, but focusing on acne prevention is key. Consult your dermatologist about the ingredients in your products and makeup. Remove your makeup every night before bed and watch what you eat. Stress can also cause breakouts so make ‘beauty sleep’ a priority.

Makeup Protection

Have you updated your medicine cabinet? It’s more than likely that you will come across expired products that should be tossed. Foundation has expiration dates while mascara should be tossed three months after the first time of use.

What about your makeup brushes? Do you wash them once a week? Brushes can contain bacteria causing your skin to break out. If you haven’t already, we suggest investing in quality brushes this season or at least washing the ones you already own.

Breaking Beauty News!

simple skincare products

Simple Skincare’s new line of facial care products specially formulated for sensitive skin is now available in the states. Simple has been the number one facial skincare in the UK with 50 years of experience, and starting next week you will start seeing them on shelves!

You know that I’ve been hesitant to use new products in fear of breaking out (per my Adult Acne Diary post). However, I’ve been using the soap-free Simple Kind to Skin Refreshing Washing Facial Gel with pro-vitamin B5 and Vitamin E, Simple Kind to Skin Vital Vitamin Day Cream with SPF 15 and Simple Kind to Skin Eye Make-Up Remover which is oil-free. And I’m proud to announce that starting today, I am an official line Brand Ambassador for Simple Skincare.

Their products are suitable for all skin types, and I’m using them because they have no dyes or perfumes and they’re filled with vitamins!

Simple Skincare products are available now on drugstore.com and range from $5.99 – $12.99

By Mercedes Sanchez

We’re super excited to share our on-camera interview with the newly crowned Miss America 2012! Laura Kaeppeler was a pleasure to speak with at a recent Artistry by Amway event (the same folks who flew us to Santa Monica to cover the Alma Awards in September). We learned about their new Intensive skincare anti-wrinkle firming serum — which is said to boost collagen activity up to 300% overnight.

This week our girls went Boho Chic! From the clothes, accessories and even earthy nail polish tones. Li (pictured on the left) shared a photo from one of her favorite outfits while jewelry designer Erika Peña shared her most recent manicure from Manzana Studio.

“This is a little more bohemian than it is chic, but it’s one of my favorite things to pack on vacation,” says Li. “It’s a vintage African skirt, a T-shirt from H&M, a pendant from Aldo and sunglasses from Talbots. It’s my favorite look.”

nyc fashion bloggers el diario la prensa

As of September 2011, I’ve been an official Spanish-language fashion and beauty journalist and blogger to impreMedia — the parent company of newspapers like New York’s El Diario/La Prensa, Los Angeles’ La Opinion, Chicago’s La Raza and national magazine, Vista Magazine. It was through my partnership with impreMedia that I went on assignment to Brazil to cover Capital Fashion Week. My articles are published nationally through their newspapers and online.

Here I am at the launch party of their multimedia Web sites which include some of my articles and original videos. I’m wearing a black blazer from the Gap, blouse by Rachel Zoe, Christian Siriano for Payless bag and Nine West pumps.
