NO DRAMA HERE! JUST DRAMATIC EYES

9 09 2009

Beauty Me This As we celebrated the unofficial end to summer earlier this week,  there are a few other things that come to an end at this time of year. For instance, that relaxing vacation, the awesome internship you dreamed of and unfortunately those summer loves. Of them all, the one most toxic to your skin are the breakups!

According to Dr. Ken from Clinique, acute stress triggers reactions that can permanently damage your skin. “So when possible avoid or reduce the use of oxidative stressors such as excess sugar, alcohol, and coffee and instead switch to skin care formulas with extra soothers, moisturizers, anti-oxidants and anti-irritants,” says Dr. Ken.

So don’t fret over the small stuff my Beauties. Instead treat yourself to something chic. Maybe a new hair style, a great outfit or even a make-over. All of those sum up to a girls night out, just what you need to flaunt the new look and the new YOU. Killer heels and a sexy sleek dress are just the basics, but the absolute way to knock ‘em dead on their feet is with smokin’ hot dramatic eyes.

FALL FAVORITES

2 09 2009

AUTUMN MUST-HAVES
Beauty Me This
If the weather out there hasn’t reminded you already, we are approaching autumn- one of my favorite seasons for its crisp cool nights. If you’re going back to school, it is definitely the time to make sure you keep up with all the latest trends. And for those heading back to the office, you can look forward to the first holiday of the season: Labor Day. So the fall line-up is one that can highlight any outfit and give you a boost of confidence right along with that great back to school outfit or corporate chic look. The celebs are definitely into orange lips, thick eyebrows and a matte manicure this season. And since you, my Beauties, are just as glamorous, we must get you on your way to look like the dazzling gems you are.

Lets begin:

•    Orange is about making a statement that says you are confident and bold. It doesn’t matter the complexion of your skin. It’s about the attitude of the woman who dares to wear the color. Now be sure to keep the rest of the face subtle and natural looking. Try  Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Volupté Silky Sensual Radiant Lipstick, Orange Shiver $34

EYEBROWS

•    As for the eyebrows, lets allow those babies to grow in a little fuller than usual. For those who can’t handle the challenge, just shape them using Tweezerman Tweezers. They come in lots of cool colors for you to choose from. Tweezerman.com, $15+ Finish with a styling gel for taming unruly brows. It gives you an all day lasting styled, shape brow. Browmousse Styling Gel $10

NAILS
•    Let’s keep our pointers high maintenance and opt for a matte finish color when getting a manicure. It gives you a professional classy look, and it almost takes no time to dry. OPI.com

I think we are on our way to starting off the fall with nothing less but the most fabulous styles that will have us all looking our autumn best!

SKIN CARE 101

COVERING THE BASICS
Skincare BeChicMag.comJust as I promised my beauties. I’m here for your next dose of Beauty Me This! The toolbox is ready to be explored, but before we get a glimpse of it, let’s cover the basics of applying make-up so that it looks good and not cakey (eww).

The most important thing for beautiful glowing skin (drum roll please) is skincare!  It helps avoid build up, which can cause acne and troubled skin. So to maintain a silky fresh looking face you should practice the following routine which is utterly dependent on the type of skin you have: oily, normal/combination, dry, sensitive or sun-damaged. To figure out your skin type, take a look at this article on about.com. But first, check out the following Simple 4 Step Regimen:

  1. Cleanse
  2. Exfoliate
  3. Moisturize
  4. Apply Sunscreen (some moisturizers already have SPF)

Cleansing
Try to stay away from bar soaps as they tend to dry the skin. Buy a cleanser that accommodates your skin type and stick to it. Be patient and give products a couple of days.  There is such thing as over cleansing my beauties. So two times a day will do. Over cleansing can strip the skin of natural oils that help moisturize. Look at that!  There are some good oils after all.

Exfoliate
This can be done once a week preferably. Exfoliation of the skin removes the top layer of dead skin skills which happen to dull out your complexion.  Try not to sabotage your skin with giant grained scrubs; they are more likely to harm your skin than help it.

Moisturize
All skin types will benefit from applying moisturizer.  Pay attention to what your skin is telling you—it will not steer you wrong. If it is tight, add more cream than usual. If it’s not, apply a little less. Over moisturizing can cause clogged pores.

Sun Screen
Hmmm, who wants leathery wrinkled skin? Not I, and neither do you my Beauties! To help prevent premature aging invest in a good moisturizer that includes UVA and UVB protection from the sun’s harmful rays. If you are buying a lotion with sunblock, make sure to buy a separate night cream.  There are ingredients that are not to be worn 24/7 and will aggravate your pores.

So it’s that simple! In just four easy steps you can maintain healthy glowing skin. I dare you to try it.
