By Mercedes Sanchez

Congratulations to this year’s Fashion 2.0 Award winners! See video below.

On Thursday, I co-presented the award for Best Facebook with my girl Flor Rivera. It was a packed house as fashion and tech leaders gathered for Style Coalition‘s 5th annual award show, in partnership with Fashion GPS.

Stylist Robert Verdi hosted the ceremony and designer Zac Posen shared a few words as keynote speaker. Model Coco Rocha presented an award, and Lucky Magazine‘s Eva Chen won Digital Navigator.

Asos and Marc Jacobs were the night’s biggest winners. Asos won for Best Facebook and Top Innovator, while Marc Jacobs accepted awards for Best Twitter and Best Instagram.

Metallics, Whites, and Sheer

By Mercedes Sanchez

While there were quite a few misses at last night’s Grammys, I’m going to focus on my picks for best dressed. I wasn’t in love with any particular piece,  but overall the following ladies take the lead.

Julia Roberts’ Pink Jumpsuit at SAG Awards

21 01 2014

Pretty in Pink

By Mercedes Sanchez

julia roberts pink jumpsuit at sag awardsBy now you guys know I love a chic jumpsuit!

So it’s no surprise that I absolutely loved Julia Roberts’ pink valentino jumpsuit at this year’s SAG Awards.

Her silver accessories with her soft curls gave her look a sultry, sexy touch.

I liked this look because it wasn’t over the top and uncomfortable, and her natural-looking makeup was perfect.

We got the 411 from makeup artist Genevieve Herr.

How to Get Julia Roberts’ Look:

To complement Julia’s stunning pink Valentino jumpsuit, makeup artist Genevieve Herr gave Julia a soft smoky eye with a pale nude lip.

Herr defined Julia’s eyes with plum and violet shades and gave the cheeks a subtle glow. She used Lancôme Blush Subtil Palette in Rouge Allure.

For the lips, Herr used L’Absolu Nu Replenishing & Enhancing Lipstick in Beige Tulle.

Get the Look: Camila Avles at Critics’ Choice

17 01 2014

Lady in Red

By Mercedes Sanchez

camila alves critics choice awardsCamila Alves looked effortlessly chic at last night’s Critics’ Choice Awards 2014.

She wore a sleeveless red gown by Paule Ka with matching peep-toe sandals by Oscar Tiye.

Her diamond studs are from Martin Katz.

She’s always so poised, elegant and radiant.

(Matthew McConaughey is so lucky!)

Her hair was pulled back in a super chic knot.

Hairstylist Peter Butler explains how he created the look:

19th Annual Critics' Choice Movie Awards - Red Carpet

- First, Butler applied mousse to Camila’s wet hair and blew it dry.  He applied a couple drops of new John Frieda Frizz Ease Nourishing Oil Elixir to smooth out frizz.

- Next, he parted her hair down the center.  For the cleanest part possible, he used a flat iron at the hairline.

- Then, Butler applied a few drops of a finish polishing serum and ran a comb through Camila’s hair to make it as sleek as possible as he shaped it into a low ponytail.

- For added shine he misted John Frieda Frizz Ease 100% Shine Glossing Mist.

- Finally, using three large pins, Butler twisted the hair into an off-center knot around the base of the ponytail, leaving the ends out.  He completed the look with extra hold hairspray.

Prom Style Tips for the Teen in Your Life

By Mercedes Sanchez

If you were to look at photos of prom dresses from five or 10 years ago, you’d see long, formal gowns and perhaps some princess styles. Today, young ladies have more fun (and inexpensive) options to choose from.

I shared some of my picks for the 2013 Prom Season at my latest fashion segment over at Univision. (Watch segment below!)

The Short Prom Dress

mint short prom dress macys

If you’re looking for a short prom dress, I recommend this B Darlin Juniors Dress in mint. We’ve seen this color on the red carpet on celebrities like Katy Perry, Selena Gomez, and Heidi Klum. And take a look at those rhinestones! You won’t need to add many accessories as the beading is enough. Doesn’t she look like a Tinkerbell? So pretty. Available at Macy’s for $139.

Strapless and Shimmery Prom Dress

This Nicole Miller gown is worth a look if you’re going for a more traditional look. Strapless dresses never go out of style, and it’s just the right frock if you’re looking for shimmer without wearing sequins. Available at RenttheRunway.com for only $110. It goes for $630 in department stores– so renting might be ideal.

The Hi-Low Prom Dress

The hi-low dress is a trend we’re going to see lots of this prom season. This dress has a few other trends going on at the same time, but it’s acceptable — only because it’s prom. This Speechless dress has ombre, black and white and the hi-low. Definitely a fun party dress!  Available at Macy’s for $129.

The Sequin Prom Dress

This Badgely Mischka dress has head-to-toe sequins. I added a statement necklace from Rent the Runway for additional bling and an extra touch of elegance. The messy-side bun is also an effortlessly chic hair style recommended not just for prom– but for all parties. Dress available at RentTheRunway.com for $160.
