SHAKIRA IS BACK

“SHE WOLF” SINGLE REVIEW

Shakira in She Wolf, BeChicMag.com She’s back, and on October 5th you’ll have access to Shakira‘s new album “She Wolf”. But don’t expect to see the Colombian star you met in the release of her first English record “Laundry Service”. If you’re a true fan, this is definitely not the same Shakira from the 1995 “Pies Descalzos”. The Barranquilla native has evolved throughout the years changing her looks, sultry dance moves and now her lyrics. The once poetic, socially conscious Shakira seems to have crossed over to a style that appeals to an audience who might be more interested in what bizarre, yet sexy positions she can do rather than what she has to say. Of course, it could all be intentional.

“It’s a very electronic album,” the singer told MTV News. “Dance-oriented. Club-oriented. I want people to have fun with it. Forget about the troubles. Forget about the crisis. Forget everything for a minute — at least while they listen to the music.”

And forget about their problems they will. Take a look at the “She Wolf” video below and let me know what you think! I had to listen to the song about three times to fully understand what she was saying- the electronic beat washes her voice out. But in this “dance” record, I doubt anyone cares what Shakira has to say. They’ll be too busy looking at her butt. I know I was. - Mercedes Sanchez

Oh wow… I’ve been a fan since forever, but this song… hmmmm….. I don’t like it, even after the first, second, and third listen. The beat is OK, sounds like most dance beats, BUT the song doesn’t do it for me. :(

I’m sorry she’s strayed from her melodies and poems, thoughtful stuff. Too bad also that she is totally selling her butt.

She’s Hot! in every sense of the word. , The song can be catchy but i don’t think its a hit.
In terms of the lyrics of the song actually many women may be able to resonate with it. It speaks about the role many women lead in society in relationships, where they dedicate to their husbands from “Monday through Monday” and very little if anything is given in return to make her feel good, right, appreciated etc. It can leave women feeling trapped at times.

Granted perhaps she doesn’t need to get all sexy like that to say those things, but I cant lie i totally appreciate her beauty and talented moves. This song in particular over all 2.5 stars out of 6

Completely agree; she is not the same person from 1995. However, like every other artist, they go through their stages and grow from the mistakes or adventures from the past. Shakira is a genuine musician and entertainer.

I miss the old Shakira, “Donde estan los ladrones” Shakira is what I loved and miss… in her new stuff she seems to be a bit of a sell out, forgetting who she really is and just being sexy to make money… don’t like it. =(

She is a great entertainer, but I miss the old Shakira… Her old songs bring great memories, cause I was a huge fan when I was younger. I’m happy for her success, but hope in the future she’d do something similar to her old projects, like “Pies Descalzos…” That’s what made her famous in the first place, at least in Latin America!

It seems like I just keep seeing this music video each day. I didn’t realize it was a new one until I read it on Twitter from another blogger. I strangely like the part of the video where she howls like a wolf LOL. Some of other songs I have heard are cool, too. My Spanish isn’t up to par but I manage to listen and look the words up because I totally don’t understand everything. But I like this video though.

THANK YOU for this review, I wrote something similar for my friends and for myself a few weeks ago when I first saw the video. I post it here:

    A EULOGY FOR SHAKIRA:

Mourning the loss of an artist is always hard, especially when they’re still alive.

Nobody really understands my deep sadness and anger at what the formerly known artist now known as Shakira has become. I’ll give you an idea: I own very few CDs of female singers because I hold them to a high standard. She is the only female artist whose CDs I owned as they came out.

I never bought Laundry Service. Some jokes are just hard to swallow. But I was mildly proud of her at this point still — that someone I’d always admired was doing a crossover (like I was proud of Ricky Martin back in the day when he did the same — Shut up, I love Ricky Martin! haha).

Anyway, I digress. I’m here to mourn the death of someone whom I always thought of as the female Ricardo Arjona (and he is someone I find fascinating and someone I just can’t resist… he’s what an artist should be). Shakira was someone I thought was absolutely gorgeous with her big cheeks and just-right body. Someone who always had something to say in a most impressive way (the female Alanis Morisette for me). Do you recall “Lo que no se quiere se mata” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jTtEDq3bAL8)? or “Antologia” (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tniLja1U7Kc&feature=related) from Pies Descalzos? and the CDs that came after, where she continued exploring her Latino-Rock side, and delving into her Lebanese roots? It was hot, she exuded sensuality, she was a force you couldn’t take your eyes off, she was a woman you wanted to imitate. The witty beautiful rockin’ chick, with the dark curly hair and the fair skin, with the red and blue pin-straight hair and the funky voice…

But what is this? Can anybody explain to me why I would want to watch a video (as a woman) where she’s just having sex with herself in a body suit that makes her look like she’s naked and showing off her double-jointedness? Especially when I can’t even bleeping understand what the song is saying?! (the fact that she kinda sorta looks like Madonna scares the supreme crap outta me too).

And really, has anybody EVER figured out WHAT DA BLEEPING BLEEP “lucky that my breasts are small and humble so that you don’t confuse them for mountains” is supposed to mean?!

Some of you may read this and think this is just another note complaining about what people have the nerve, the CHUTZPAH to call music these days, but no, it’s more than that, it’s much more — I’m not complaining, I’m deeply affected and saddened.

    It pains me.

Rest in Peace Shakira, formerly known as an artist, now just a hot Blonde mess.

    Lmao! Love what u wrote:
I completely agree, she is not the same shakira from 1995 the one that I enjoyed listening to her song. She is trying too hard to imitate other singers and that is taking her no where. I still dont understand what she is saying because her moves make everyone forget what she is saying. the other day I was with the fam and we were talking about how she looks like she’s having sex with her self. In a bodysuit that looks like she is naked. But the boys loved it.
