I DREAM OF JOE JONAS

9 08 2008

Joe Jonas

While most people my age might be crushing on celebs like Justin Timberlake, Usher or Brad Pitt, I am not ashamed to say that I’ve been rocking an imaginary cradle with Joe Jonas. And to those who might not be familiar with the name (as I just learned of him a few months ago), he’s yet another Disney Channel sensation and member of The Jonas Brothers.

The New Jersey native is barely 19, but after seeing the last scene of Camp Rock I share a common interest with all tween girls. It’s something about how his mouth moves when he’s singing and the look in his eyes. Well, take a look for yourself in this clip of Camp Rock.

Oh, and I have to mention Demi Lovato has nothing on Miley Cyrus, who by the way reportedly dated Joe’s brother Nick Jonas. But that’s a different story. *ms

“NYC BECOMING MORE LIKE AMERICA”

8 08 2008

…That’s What Lucky Cheng’s Burlesque Host Says, and I Agree

Jo Boobs at the Starshine Burlesque After leaving an Indian restaurant in the East Village, my girlfriend and I were looking for a spot to have a few drinks. We passed Lucky Cheng’s on First Avenue when she said, “Hey, want to stop in there?” I’ve been to the drag-themed bar once before for a bachelorette party, but this time we just stopped to have a “Pink Pussy” aka a cocktail related to the Cosmo. And to our surprise, it was burlesque night.

The restaurant’s back room turned into the Starshine Burlesque where real women plus one tranny and one magician got down to their pasties and undies. But it wasn’t the thought of the half-naked ladies that left an impression on me. Instead it was the introduction monologue said by Tigger- a man with drag make up wearing nothing but fishnet stockings, a NYC ‘88 top and an Empire State Building brochure covering his penis (which didn’t quite cover it at all).

Tigger compared the New York City of the late 80’s to the NYC of today and said, “Back then we didn’t need silicon tits or nose jobs, or a personal trainer. We used the beauty of talent. But nowadays, it’s all fucked because New York is getting more and more like America.” How true is that? In a post last year, I wrote about how New York City has lost some of its flavor. And listening to Tigger last night reassured me that New York just isn’t what “New York” used to mean. But, I honestly can’t describe or explain what it’s becoming and that’s quite frightening.

“I have mixed feelings about being an American, but I am definitely a New Yorker.” - Tigger

I searched for a YouTube clip of his monologue and found this amatuer video
of a previous show.

Check out the Starshine Burlesque on Thursday nights. Lucky Cheng’s. 24 First Avenue.

NO LONGER A SEXY SINGLE

A RECAP ON RAMON RODRIGUEZ

Ramon and Rosie

When I interviewed actor Ramon Rodriguez for the “50 Sexiest Latino Singles” Valentine’s Day story in the NY Post, he was rocking a “Lower East Side” shirt, a shoulder-length mane and was just a sexy bachelor starting his career. Two years later, Ramon is no longer single and got rid of his locks. As you can see from the photo on the left, the Puerto Rican hottie is dating Rosie Perez pictured here at the premiere of Pineapple Express.

Apparently, great things can happen in two years. In 2006, Rodriguez was about to star in the HBO drama “The Wire.” Today, he’s filming Transformers: Revenge of the Fallen with Shia LaBeouf.

As far as Rosie, the Brooklyn star continues to do her thing and from what I’ve seen, is shining more than ever. Besides her successful career, I have a feeling her natural glow has something to do with Ramon’s long lashes and luscious lips. Don’t you think you think so?

MAKING LIFE A LITTLE EASIER

SHOP IT TO ME

Although New York was confirmed to be in a recession earlier this week, I couldn’t help but tell you of a shopping Web site that’s intended to keep most of your money where it belongs- in your wallet! During these “tough times” finding sales is imperative and Shop It To Me is the place to go to stay chic and prosperous.

This shopping savvy, free service alerts its members when their favorite designers are having a sale. Shop It To Me sends out e-mails every time an item in your size and in your area is on sale- omitting the hours of walking in and out of stores looking for bargains.

Guess Carrie 7 Pump
I wasn’t sure how their service worked, so I signed up for it. It asked me which designers I liked and what kind of clothes and accessories I was into. And within minutes, I got an e-mail telling me which brands had a current sale like this pair of Guess pumps that went down to $49.97 from $89.95. Now that’s what I call a sale!

To sign up for “sale emails”, go to ShopItToMe.com. *mercedes sanchez
