RACIST COOKIES IN THE VILLAGE

BAKERY MAKES RACIST “DRUNKEN NEGRO FACE” COOKIE

Just when it seemed that as a country we were going on a better direction, a bakery owner in Greenwich Village proves that racism is still alive, even in the Village. Ted Kefalinos of the popular Lafayette French Pastry is offering his customers what he calls “drunken negro face” cookies. According to a customer Fox5 spoke with, Kefalinos actually said the N-word instead of “negro”. The disturbed baker said he made the cookies in honor of our new president, and that “he’s following in the same path of Abraham Lincoln; he will get his”.

When a co-worker sent me this clip earlier today, I was disgusted and ashamed that this bakery is located in one of my favorite neighborhoods. See the whole story here:

It’s hilarious seeing white people freak out when they have to say the dreaded “N” word, lol. I had an English professor once that was reading a poem by an Afro-American writer that used the word extensively, and the whole class (predominantly of color, at BMCC) anxiously waited to see what she did. She dragged the reading on hoping that the word would disappear from the text…. but it didn’t. She simply didn’t say it and acted as if it were never there, lol. Back to the cookie, I can see why people might get offended by this, but the solution is to just not patronize the bakery, that way he knows that this sort of humor is not tolerated. He obviously does not think they were that bad, after all, his brother in law is Cuban… putting him on blast won’t change anything. Just don’t eat there, and start a good ol’ fashioned boycott.
