La Mala Rodriguez Dresses Up for the Latin Grammys
Latin Grammys Beauty By Mercedes Sanchez
La Mala Rodriguez
During college I was obsessed with La Mala Rodriguez after watching the film Lucía y el sexo or, Sex and Lucia, where actress Paz Vega does a strip tease to Rodriguez' song, Yo Marco el Minuto.
She's had those bangs since I could remember. For last night's Latin Grammys hairstylist Rene Lam says she was inspired to keep her hair retro with a 'vintage feel.'
To start, Lam sprayed the L’Oréal Paris Advanced Haircare Triple Resist Ultimate Strength Solution throughout Mala’s damp hair for protection.
Then she worked a small amount of the L’Oréal Paris EverCurl Sculpt & Hold Cream-Gel while the hair was still wet. Lam then blow-dried, leaving the hair slightly damp to easily section the hair by pin-curling, using one-inch sections.
Once Mala’s hair was cool, Rene removed the bobby pins and ran her hands gently though the curls to soften, and texturized with L’Oréal Paris EverStrong Thickening Tonic.
I was surprised to learn that her bangs didn't need much maintenance. Lam left the bangs to flow naturally, running a small amount of the thickening tonic just to even out the texture.
Though I couldn't find a video to the original rap version of Yo Marco El Minuto, I found a softer reggae-version she sung live at SOB's in 2012. Take a look below.
