If you're looking for a more casual yet chic look for an upcoming holiday party, consider this black velvet dress from Old Navy. Believe it or not, velvet is back on trend. Katy Perry recently wore a velvet dress on the red carpet and more celebrities are doing the same .

For a casual outfit like this- or if you're wearing all black- accessories are a must.

This red gown is perfect for a formal New Year's Eve party- or even a winter wedding.

The dress retails of $850! It's from Badgley Mishka but you  can literally borrow it for a much lower price on Rent the Runway for $130.

And I'm a big believer of mix and matching high and low items. Don't be afraid of wearing less expensive accessories even if you're wearing a designer dress. This faux leather black clutch is from Old Navy and goes for only $23.

This is a great look for an office party.  The green on top also gives it a fun holiday touch.

This dress is pure elegance! This is another great option for a formal holiday party. Great choice if you want to avoid sequins, red, and green and want a much bolder look.

The detail is the black and gold lace. Check out the back:
