6 of our favorite moments from the Golden Globes: From Mimi Valdes, Tracee Ellis Ross to Meryl Streep
One down, and a few more to go. Did you watch the Golden Globes last night? I saw most of it and live tweeted. Like always there were some highs and lows. And instead of focusing on the "best" and "worst" dressed this year, I want to share my picks for the award show's best moments. 1. Tracee Ellis Ross' speech
— Hollywood Reporter (@THR) January 9, 2017
How awesome was that?! If you're at work and can't put up the volume here's an excerpt from her speech.
Ross also goes on to say that she doesn't have any children of her own and thanked her Blackish co-stars and TV kids.
2. Ryan Gosling's speech

Our hearts melted when he mentioned his daughters names, Amada and Esmeralda, and when he recognized Eva Mendes. "If she hadn’t taken all that on so that I could have this experience, it would surely be someone else up here other than me today. Sweetheart, thank you.” 3. Spotting Mimi Valdes on the red carpet with Pharrell
— Pharrell Williams (@Pharrell) January 9, 2017
You SHOULD know Mimi Valdes, but if you don't, that's OK. I'll tell you. Mimi has been around forever. About 10 years ago she was the editorial director at Latina Magazine after working at Vibe as an editor. Fast forward: Today she's an executive producer on the film "Hidden Figures," and is Pharrell's creative director.
I was super excited to see her on the red carpet. Congrats to Mimi on her success.
4. Evan Rachel Wood in a tuxedo
Have you watched "Westworld" on HBO? Evan Rachel Wood was unrecognizable on the red carpet with her short hair cut. Nothing like her character Dolores. I loved her pant suit but even more the reason behind her custom Altuzarra suit. The 29-year-old actress told Ryan Seacrest,“I love dresses, I’m not trying to protest dresses, but I want girls and women to know that they’re not a requirement. You don’t have to wear one if you don’t want to and to just be yourself. Your worth is more than that.”
5. Janelle Monáe's makeup and "Moonlight's" big win
Speaking about women in tuxedos, this was Janelle Monáe's first time at the Golden Globes. The singer-turned-actress is known for wearing tuxedos but she donned a custom Armani gown and soft makeup on the red carpet. "I wanted to give Janelle a soft kissable pinkish nude lip," says makeup artist Jessica Smalls. "I exfoliated her lips with a quick mix of lemon juice and sugar and applied COVERGIRL Oh Sugar! Lip Balm in Taffy and dabbed COVERGIRL Colorlicious in Delicious to center of her lips for a perfect pout.”
I want to try that lipstick. It looks great on her! Read: 5 drugstore makeup products I'm wearing right now
6. Meryl Streep
I personally loved everything about Meryl Streep's speech (full speech her via the New York Times). I also enjoyed watching the actors' faces as Streep unexpectedly gave many of them a shoutout. Ryan Gosling's express may have been the best!
