Personal Post: Update on the campaign to save our local church
I want to thank you for supporting my parish's effort to save our church. Fellow bloggers, clients, and readers have been asking about it so I thought I'd give you a quick update. Recently the Wall Street Journal published an article titled "Churches Resisting Mergers Appeal to Higher Powers." The article talks about how some parishes are seeking recourse with the Vatican. My church, the Church of the Nativity, is mentioned.
On Christmas Day I was getting calls from CBS and NBC regarding our appealing process and the social media campaign. You can find links to news articles and TV segments on Facebook.com/KeepNativityOpen.
Last week, two parishioners visited the Archdiocese to see Nativity's Decree letter, a document which states the reasons why the Archdiocese wants to close the church. The reasons given were "change in demographic and decline in priests." But according to Canon Law, those are not valid reasons to close a church.
To get a full description of what our Decree letter said and what happens next, visit the parish's blog here.
I'll be sure to keep you posted once we get an update.
