H&M HITS CHINA

hmchinaboard.jpg The ever so popular, inexpensive yet fashionable H&M added another location to its international repertoire: China. Last week, H&M flung open the doors of its new four-story shop in Shanghai's bustling Lu Wan shopping heartland. Over 700 anxious shoppers awaited the limited "H&M Loves Kylie" line.

The techno artist known for her 2001 "Can't Get You Out of My Head" hit, unleashed the line at Shanghai's glass Science Museum where her beachwear collection made its debut. Celebrity appearances included Asian stars like actor Zhao Wei, top model Du Juan and TV star Lee Xiao Ran.

"We are very proud to open our first stores in these fast-growing regions with high fashion awareness and great spending power. China is a strategic and exciting market with great fashion awareness and spending power," says H&M spokesperson Camilla Emilsson Falkan.

"Coming to China is a major challenge. We are convinced that we can offer our customers added value through fashion, competitive prices and quality. To 80 percent, as in all H&M stores, the assortment is the same- all over the world. The concept is as always fashion and quality at best price. Fashion today is so international so we see that our concept can work globally. The store in Hong Kong had the ‘M by Madonna’ world wide premiere."

As you learned from a previous MercedesSanchez.com story, most H&M shoppers take a great risk: You'll never know when and where you'll spot another gal sporting the same outfit as you. Not only do we have the states and Europe to worry about, but someone all the way in China might now be wearing the same outfit as you. But as much as I love H&M, I know there's a need to shop with caution.
